The Polonaise

It has the look of wheels from the Baltic area of Poland and Scandinavia. In fact, a well known spinning wheel historian has said that the manner in which this wheel is built is as close to being historically correct as he has seen. This will be a plus for spinners wanting the "real thing" and for the growing community of reenactors. But design aside, the Polonaise is a great and modern spinning wheel.

The level of detail and turning is breathtaking. Notice the marbling of the wood grain that is highlighted by the stain and finish. No other wheel being made today comes close to this level of detail. A spinner could pay substantially more for other wheels and still not have the beauty of a Kromski. This wheel is a great value and it spins as well as it looks.

The Polonaise features functional wood threaded wheel angle adjustments so the proper angle can be obtained with the flyer. “Pin and socket” bearings support the wheel, offering low friction and exceptional ease of treadling. All of the wheel hardware sits between the wheel posts and the footman passes through the bench to the treadle.

The Polonaise is made with European alder and birch and comes standard with double drive and scotch tensioning. Additional specifications:

• bobbins: 3 included; will fit all other Kromski wheels; Kromski regular bobbins have yarn capacity that is 50% greater than many other popular wheel bobbins; a plus for any spinner

• leather bearings on flyer

Options

Jumbo Flyer - extend the capabilities of your Kromski wheel by adding a Jumbo Flyer Kit.  You can quickly swap out your regular flyer for the jumbo unit (and back again).  Here are the benefits: flyer with very large orifice .70 inch opening for heavy spinning and plying; much larger jumbo bobbin - holds 50 cubic inches of yarn; lower ratio ranges - 2 speeds - to give you excellent speed choices without changing flyer: 5.3 and 8 to 1.

Additional Whorls - extend the ratio range of this already versatile wheel by adding slower and faster whorls. On the high end, reach ratios of 25:1; and on the low end drop your speed to 5.5:1 (this is the same as our Jumbo whorl but can be purchassed separately).

This wheel comes boxed as a kit and requires assembly. Available unfinished and finished.
