If you purchased a Kromski Polonaise spinning wheel prior to August 1, 2001, or your dealer did, a free upgrade kit is available to limit the movement of the mother-of-all. The original design allowed the mother-of-all to rotate on the wheel table which could cause the alignment of the drive band to be thrown off if bumped. The Polonaise "Fix-it" kit will allow you to easily substitute a part that will eliminate the movement.
If you think the original design is not a problem, there is no need to completely install the new part that is included in the "fix-it kit"; however, we suggest that you swap out the old adjusting plate with the new one in the kit.
The fix-it kit is available free from the dealer you purchased the wheel from. Please contact them directly to obtain yours.
How to determine if your wheel needs this kit
To determine if your wheel is set up with the original part, look for the following:
examine the adjusting plate under the mother-of-all; if you do not see two screw holes drilled through the plate, you have an old plate and need the kit.
Instructions for installing the Polonaise "fix-it kit"
The template and parts are to be used to eliminate arbitrary rotation of the Polonaise mother-of-all. Once you have completed these instructions, your mother-of-all will not rotate; it will move left and right on the table so you can obtain the proper tension on your drive band only.
If you are satisfied with how you presently adjust the Polonaise, this fix-it kit is not required but please do use the new adjusting plate
.

Observe how your mother-of-all looks now
before you begin. When you are done with the steps below, it will look the same. The only difference will be that the mother-of-all base and the adjusting plate will be one unit, screwed together.
Step 1- Remove Mother-of-all from your Polonaise. Set aside the original adjusting plate. Remove maiden posts from mother-of-all base.

Step 2 - Step 2 - Cut out the template at right; fold down along the heavy black line as indicated to make a 90º bend; place the template on the new adjusting plate with the short side of the fold hanging over the long straight edge of the plate. With scotch tape, secure the template to the plate so it will not move. The template must not cover the large hole on the plate or the two small screw holes; notch around the holes with scissors if needed.

Step 3 - Place the new adjusting plate on a hard, level surface (four wooden pegs facing down) with the two supplied metal screws protruding up from the bottom and through the two predrilled holes in the plate. The heads of the screws will be resting on the surface and pointing up. Best to place the plate with the template on the right side as you look at the adjusting plate. See note on template.

Step 4 - Insert the dowel jig from the fix-it kit through the round hole on the bottom of the mother-of-all base until it stops. With this dowel as a guide you will now bring the base over the new plate and slowly lower the dowel into the large hole on the plate. The orifice end of the base should be near you. Dont push down yet.

Step 5 - Lower the base and dowel onto the plate slowly (but dont touch the screw points yet). Eyeball the edge of the base and rotate it so that the rounded edge of the base is parallel with ANY of the 4 printed lines you see on the template. This is not real critical. Just line up with these lines the best you can; let your eye be the judge.

Step 6 - With the base parallel with the lines, lower more until you can push down onto the plate to cause the tips of the two screws to make indentations on the bottom side of the base. Push hard and make as big an indentation as you can; rap it with your hand. Remove the base; note the indentations. You may make these indentations larger if you wish using an awl or sharp metal pin.

Step 7 - Remove the template and dowel from the plate; screw the plate to the base using the two screws; the screws will be sunk into the indentation holes you made in Step 6 (the wood is soft enough to screw directly, however, you may drill 2 pilot holes if you wish). Reassemble the mother-of-all, adjust drive band tension and align the wheel with the flyer.
